The Hawthorn tree is often described as the fairy bush in Irish folklore. It is a mid-sized hardwood tree with a twisted or gnarly trunk and branches and is often called whitethorn. It has been used for its medicinal properties and the timber is in tool making.
Irish Hawthorn Wood Turned Bowls feature tight wood grain and is an extremely hardwood. It is very unusual to come across large pieces of hawthorn trees as they are normally planted in hedgerows or appear as single trees in poor soil.
