Yew is part of the trilogy of Irish native wood, consider to hold magically and everlasting properties by the Irish Celts. It has been used in medicine for a large number of years and is believed to ward off evil spirits.
It is the most stunning of timbers to work with and is not considered a common tree in Ireland anymore.
The amazing grain and color of yew are second to none as it moves from tones of cream to a rich red or purple tone. It can be a tricky wood to work with as it normally does not grow in straight rings as an oak or Ash tree would grow. The body of the yew is generally bumped or contains numerous branches joined together with a hollow centre.
Our wood-turned Yew Bowls are made using sustainable and traceable Irish yew wood collected by us to use in our workshop in County Kildare.
